Professional Experience

Michael S. Butterfield is a partner in the St. Louis office of Mantese Honigman, P.C., where he represents individuals and businesses in complex, high-stakes civil matters in state and federal courts across the country. Licensed to practice in both Michigan and Missouri, he co-leads the firm’s St. Louis office alongside CEO Gerard Mantese.

Mr. Butterfield’s practice focuses on business law, with an emphasis on shareholder and member disputes, fiduciary duty claims, trade secret and non-compete litigation, and other business torts. In addition to his litigation work, he serves as outside general counsel to family-owned businesses, offering ongoing legal and strategic guidance on governance, ownership, and transactional matters.  He also has extensive experience with insurance and construction-related disputes and has successfully tried multiple cases to verdict.

Mr. Butterfield has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for Commercial Litigation and named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for his skill in navigating complex legal issues and delivering practical, results-driven solutions to his clients.

Outside of the practice of law, Mr. Butterfield enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and traveling.
