Class Actions

When large groups are affected by common injuries that cannot be individually litigated in a cost-effective or efficient manner, class action litigation can be the only means to redress wide-reaching wrongful conduct. Our attorneys are experienced in managing large-scale and complex class action litigation, often proceeding concurrently in multiple states across the country. We bring class action litigation in situations where numerous individuals have experienced real harm, and we also defend companies wrongfully targeted by unfair or inappropriate class action litigation.

In 2020, our firm obtained an historic settlement with the State of Michigan in which the State agreed to provide tens of millions of dollars of mental health care for children receiving Medicaid assistance.  In 2008, the firm prevailed in the United States Supreme Court against big tobacco in the case of Altria v. Good, in which the high Court held that the plaintiff’s claims were not preempted by FTC regulations. The firm also obtained multi-million dollar settlements against insurers for the wrongful refusal to pay for behavioral therapy for autistic children.  We have also represented senior citizens in a class action arising from the refusal of a community care residential community to return entrance deposits to these vulnerable citizens.

The attorneys at Mantese Honigman have handled several class action cases dealing with public and private pensions, including breach of fiduciary duty, failure to engage in due diligence, and failure to diversify.
